Abstract

Despite its short history, the First Democratic Republic of Georgia occupies one of the most important place in the country’s history for many reasons, among them, the active involvement of women in the political process is one of the first. 130 persons won the title of Member of the Constituent Assembly in the Democratic Republic in 1919 under the conditions of the first universal, equal, direct and secret elections. Elections were held in February 1919. The Central Election Commission registered 15 election subjects to participate in it. In total they nominated 600 MP candidates, among them 26 were women. In total 145 persons held the status of members of the Constituent Assembly, among them were 5 women. In this article, we will try to present a little information about each of them.
Voter lists, election results and other documentary materials are given in the collection “The First Universal Democratic Elections in Independent Georgia”. The collection of documents “Founding Assembly of Georgia -1919” contains the data of the members of the Constituent Assembly, including information on women MPs. It is these and other documents that we will rely on when working on the paper.
