Varlam Chekhezishvili in 1917: A Return to Georgia

Abstract

The paper deals with the activities of a famous Georgian anarchist, Varlam Cherkezishvili, conducted in 1917, when he as back to Georgia. At that time, anarchists were no longer around and the opponent political forces of anarchists dominated the political scene of Georgia. Due to these reasons, there are a few and only short notices on the figure of Varlam Cherkezishvili. According to these information, Varlam Cherkezishvili delivered lectures in Tbilisi and Kutaisi on the international situation and on those challenges faced by the Georgian political figures. Varlam Cherkezishvili supported the victory of the Entente Powers in the World War I. He considered that the Georgian political parties should become active in the direction of restoration of the state independence of Georgia.
