The Democratic Evolution of Georgia and Its Cycles
Abstract
The article examines the process of formation of the political regime in Georgia, which is represented in the form of cycles of democratization and authoritarianism. According to the authors, its direction is determined by the process of strengthening democratic potential, which creates and directs the democratic evolution of the country, which occurs gradually as democratic resources strengthen. The electoral-authoritarian regimes of Shevardnadze and Saakashvili strengthened the democratic potential of the country and were evolutionary cycles of political development that contributed to the democratic evolution of the country. Georgia is in the third cycle of democratization.
