Ivane Javakhishvili on the Foreign Policy of the Democratic Republic of Georgia (April, 1919)

Abstract

The paper deals with the public speech of Ivane Javakhishvili on the „Present Moment“ (27-28 April 1919), which is reconstructed according to the publications of the newspaper Sakhartvelo. The possible mistakes of the Georgian politics were considered as the main threat to independence of Georgia by Ivane Javakhishvili, which is termed by him as “naivety of the Georgian politics.” These sorts of mistakes were determined by religion in the past, whereas during the existence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia it was conditioned by the civilizational and ideological considerations. In April, 1919, during discussion of the foreign policy situation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, Ivane Javakhishvili came with the main propositions of the foreign policy priorities of Georgia: self-reliance, eradication of „naïve  approach“ in the foreign politics, defence of the historical-strategic borders of Georgia
