Russia and the Velvet Revolution of Armenia
Abstract
The article looks into the cause and the course of the Armenian velvet revolution that took place in spring 2018 and its impact on relations between Russia and Armenia. Given the fact that there are strong linkages between Armenian and Russian political elite and that both countries are members of major regional organizations - Eurasian Economic Community and Collective Security Treaty Organization, change of power obviously draw attention of Armenia’s strategic ally - Russia. Despite the non-interference of Russian authorities during the revolution, Russian public, government and expert society repeatedly changed their attitude to the events that occurred on the territory of the Armenia, both during the revolution and Pashinyan’s premiership.
